Our newest benefit changes

Add or Increase Supplemental Life, AD&D and/or LTD

We introduced The Hartford as our new life and disability vendor effective October 1, 2023.

The Hartford is offering a one-time opportunity this annual enrollment for employees not currently enrolled in supplemental insurance coverage to enroll in additional coverage up to the guaranteed issue amount without Evidence of Insurability (EOI), which is usually a health screening. The amounts are:

  • Spouse life up to $10,000,
  • Supplemental long-term disability, low or high option.

The Hartford is also offering the opportunity this annual enrollment to enroll in coverage subject to EOI:

  • Supplemental life and/or AD&D up to the lesser of 2 times covered earnings and $250,000,
  • Spouse life in increments of $10,000, up to a maximum of $50,000,
  • Child life up to $10,000.

The coverage elected during annual enrollment without EOI will be effective January 1, 2024. In future years, EOI will apply to new coverage elections made during annual enrollment.

If you are currently enrolled, you still can make changes to your supplemental life and AD&D,  subject to any applicable Evidence of Insurability (EOI) requirements, or to discontinue your current supplemental coverage.

You now enroll for supplemental LTD coverage as well as supplemental life and/or AD&D and spouse/child life and/or AD&D coverage, directly with the Hartford, at www.thehartford.com/benefits/enroll.

If you currently have any supplemental insurance coverage, please register at The Hartford to confirm your coverage, demographic, dependent and beneficiary information, as applicable, is correct or add any missing information needed, or to enroll or make changes or discontinue current coverage.

Your user ID is your employee ID and your initial password is your initials followed by your date of birth in MMDDYYYY format. You may receive emails directly from The Hartford at EmployeeBenefits@MarketWORKS.TheHartford.com and enroll@email.thehartfordatwork.com.

Basic life and disability coverage will continue to show in HRConnect.

Review 2024 coverage and contributions

Please set aside time now to review details of the 2024 coverage as well as the contribution rates for 2024, to make sure you’re enrolled in the right plans and taking full advantage of all that is offered.

The updates to our plans are highlighted above; you can learn more about them on this 2024 benefits microsite. The elections you make during annual enrollment will take effect on January 1, 2024, and remain in place throughout the 2024 calendar year unless you have a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child. However if EOI is still pending for life, AD&D or LTD insurance as of January 1, 2024, that coverage will take effect upon the approval of EOI rather than on January 1.

Your enrollment checklist

  1. Know your options and costs. Review your current benefit elections in HRConnect. Access HRConnect through OKTA on SegalNet, click on Me, then on Benefits.
  2. Reexamine your supplemental and spouse/child life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) and supplemental long-term disability insurance needs. Log in to or register at thehartford.com/benefits/enroll to enroll in or make changes to your supplemental life or enroll in spouse/child life and/or AD&D and supplemental long-term disability insurance, review your beneficiary designations for supplemental life insurance, and see your costs for 2024, by November 8, 2023.
  3. Enroll through HRConnect, and complete your annual enrollment elections, by November 8, 2023.
    • Verify that each of your family members’ names and corresponding Social Insurance numbers on file are correct. To check this information, access HRConnect through OKTA.
    • Update your personal information and beneficiary designations. If you have recently married, divorced, had a child, or experienced any other relevant family change, make sure your records are updated. It’s also important that you designate a basic group life insurance beneficiary if you haven’t done so.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll!

While we’re all very busy, please don’t wait until the last minute to enroll in 2024 benefits. And please ensure your time zone in HRConnect is correctly set to your local time, so that your ability to make annual enrollment elections in HRConnect does not end earlier due to an inaccurate time zone. Instructions are available on the 2024 benefits microsite.

What happens if you don’t enroll?

You must enroll if:

  • You want to make any changes to your coverage
  • If you have duplicate dependents listed in HRConnect and want to eliminate the duplicate records. Please do so by following the instructions for deleting duplicate dependents posted on the 2024 benefits microsite
  • If you want an electronic beneficiary designation (rather than paper record) for your basic group life insurance.

If you are not affected by the above, you do not need to take any action to update your benefit elections. However, you must still review your:

  • Elections in HRConnect during annual enrollment and keep a record of them (print to paper or to a file)
  • Elections in HRConnect after annual enrollment ends and keep a record of them (print to paper or to a file), and
  • Paycheck contributions for the 1st payroll of 2024.

Ensure they are all correct. Report any discrepancies to Janet Arce and Mandy Singh no later than January 31, 2024.
